Program Goals
: : To provide HIV/AIDS prevention outreach
prevention services to African American
women ages 20 - 50 years old in public
housing communities in wards 6, 7
and 8.
: : To provide HIV/AIDS prevention
information, through: safe sex
bags;referrals for counseling
and testing; HIV/AIDS prevention
presentations in various settings.
: : To help women and their families reduce their HIV risk factors.
HIV/AIDS Program
RISE,
peer
educators are African American
women who are mothers, grandmothers
and wives who reside in Wards 6,
7 and 8. The peer educators are trained
and prepared to help women reduce
their HIV/AIDS risk factors by providing
individual HIV/AIDS prevention
information, condoms, condom use
demonstration, safe sex bags, HIV
testing & counseling referral
cards, HIV/AIDS prevention presentations
and follow up visits to provide
women with condoms and health referrals.
To
date, RISE Peer Educators have
disseminated in excess of:
69,000 condoms
and 2,000 female
condoms : : Provided 17,000 individual
contacts with women
Provided 5,000 individual
contacts with men : : Distributed 19,000 HIV/AIDS
